During his orthodontic residency, Dr. Gupta did research examining the airway in cleft lip and cleft palate patients using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master of Science degree in Orthodontics.Dr. Gupta is not only a specialist in orthodontics but is also Board Certified in Orthodontics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Only approximately 25% of all orthodontists are Board Certified. Certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics signifies a unique achievement—a large step beyond the three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. Candidates are required to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is not required to be an orthodontist and is a unique honor following a process by which an individual orthodontist is thoroughly examined by an expert panel as to orthodontic knowledge and clinical skills.Dr. Gupta stays up-to-date on the latest advances in orthodontics by regularly attending national and international conferences. Dr. Gupta is a member of the local chapter of the respected Seattle Study Club where he and other dental specialists and general dentists discuss complicated, interdisciplinary cases.
